Saturday night I went down to feed the chickens and put them away for the evening. We locked them up every night because of predators. I walked into the chicken house and noticed a long black "thing" in the corner. I thought to myself "I don't remember seeing that there before." Then I knew immediately what it was and I don't think I ever got out of the chicken house that fast!! Surprisingly, the chickens didn't go after snake.
I ran to get Bobby to "evict" the unwanted tenant. His first reaction when I told him there was a snake in the chicken house was "AND, what do you want me to do?" "GET IT OUT OF THE HOUSE NOW!!!!"
So with a rake in hand, he went down to the chicken house to find "my" snake. He didn't say a word. I kept asking "Do you see it?" No response. So I thought maybe I mistook a branch for a snake, then I saw something come flying thorugh the door of the chicken house and land on the ground. Yep, it was a snake. Mr/Ms. Snake did not look too happy about being evicted. Hey, life is rough and you would be SO much happier in a dead log, trust me!!
I know snakes serve a very useful purpose. They help keep the rodent population down and they eat a lot of insects, but they can do that OUTSIDE of my chicken house if you don't mind!! I will leave them alone if they will leave me alone - sounds like a good deal, don't you think!
