School Days and an Emptynester

I wasn't one of those Moms that was glad when August came around because that meant the kids were going back to school AND I would FINALLY be free!  I always dreaded August.  I enjoyed having Nathan around.  Maybe it was because he is my only child.

It sort of makes me feel sad now when I see the school buses go by my house now and I see all the school supplies neatly stacked on the store shelves.  I know I won't be buying any more pencils or notebooks - at least for a while (until grandkids come AND that won't be for a long time!).

I guess I feel sad, too, because Nathan is far away (not too far away) but I can't see him every day.  Though I know I can pick up the phone and call him, that is not quite the same.  I still miss packing the lunches and driving him to school (and not being allowed to kiss him in the parking lot - HEAVEN FORBID that one of the other kids would see his mother giving him a kiss!)

Raising goats were never in "the plan."  If you had told me 12 years ago that I would be raising goats, I would have laughed in your face!  But, at a Valentine's Day Party at my son's Kindergarten, the local Vet showed up with two pygmy goats.  As the saying goes, it was love at first sight.  And the rest is history . . .
