You never know what type of "adventures" you are going to have here! As I was going to feed the chickens last night, I hear the wrens outside complaining a mile a minute. Two of my cats were chasing something. Oh what have they got themselves into this time!! Then I looked closer, they were chasing a baby bird and I KNEW why the wrens were so upset!!
The two cats got the baby bird cornered under my truck. The odds were not in favor of the baby bird!! I know you are not supposed to get involved, but I couldn't help but be the good samaritan. So I reached in and caught the baby bird, much to my two cats displeasure! Sorry guys, you will have to find dinner elsewhere.
Now what to do?? I have a teeny, tiny baby wren in my hand. Should have thought about this before I intervened, I guess. So I took the baby inside. Of course, I had two shih tzus who thought I brought them a new toy (think again, girls!!).
After some discussion, wmy husband and I knew we couldn't put the baby back in the nest. Mama Bird won't want it. Besides, I went to look at the bird house. Problem - the bottom fell out of the birdhouse - no wonder Mama was upset!! And there were my two cats waiting for more babies! What can you do? That's the way of nature.
So I took my baby bird as far away from the cats as possible and let it go. I couldn't keep it. I would have no idea how to take care of it. I opened up my hand and he/she flew away. So I am hoping it is OK..
