So a huge lifestyle change had to be made . . . no sugar. no salt, very limited lean red meat - turkey, chicken and some fish. I could eat all the veggies and fruits that I wanted. Also I was told to lose some weight, 5 to 10 lbs - at the time, I was 138 lbs, which was unusually high for me.
To be quite honest, I was devastated by the news. I had thought I was taking good care of myself, but I guess I wasn't. So where do you go to lose weight??? Weight Watchers, of course!! So off I went to Amazon, bought several Weight Watcher cookbooks and an exercise bike.
Quite surprisingly, the Weight Watcher recipes are actually very good!! Both my husband and son loved all the meals I made (well, except the turkey burgers!!).
The next doctor's visit, my A1C went up, even though my weight was down. I was so discouraged, but my wonderful husband told me that this was not a death sentence and we would get through this. So I lost more weight.
When I went back in April, 2017, the blood tests remain stable which was good and I was continuing to lose weight.
Well, yesterday (September 6, 2017 - almost a year to date when I found out I was pre-diabetic) went back to the Doctor's for a follow-up exam and subsequent visit to the Vampires (the blood lab). FINALLY!!!! Thank you God!!! Normal blood results. My A1C is normal - no longer I am pre-diabetic!!! After losing almost 30 lbs and completely changing my lifestyle, I have conquer diabetes!!! It can be done!!!
