This past summer, my migraine headaches were getting worst, so a new series of blood tests were ordered plus a new prescription of a higher dosage of my migraine medicine was order. Well, the blood test revealed that I was "pre-diabetic." Hmmm, didn't see that coming!! And my kidney function levels reached new highs - uh oh - not good. I was told to lose some weight and was given a whole new diet plan - no sugar, no salt, no red meat.
So off to Amazon I went and ordered several Weight Watcher cookbooks - and much to my surprise the recipes are actually very good!! I lost 21 lbs!!
We changed Doctors and the new Doctor did another series of blood tests. The kidney function test came back NORMAL!!! Do I get an AMEN!!! But, my A1C was still elevated - almost to the level of diabetic. So discouraging. And the blood test also showed that I have Celiac Disease - so now I have to go gluten-free. She (the doctor) also ordered a CT Scan of my chest (I have spots on my lungs which I have had for several years) and a stress test.
The CT Scan revealed the spots haven't changed over the last two years, but it did show an infection. BUT the stress showed some heart problems so I will be seeing a Cardiologist in January - OH JOY!! - NOT.
How I am blessed? First of all, I have two men that are supporting me completely in this endeavor. They are willing to go sugar, salt, red meat, and gluten free - no complaints at all!! They will eat spaghetti made from rice flour. I do occasionally make a meal made with real beef. The only thing that did not go over well was the turkey burgers. When I came home after the blood test revealed that my A1C had gone up after losing 21 pounds, my husband told me that it wasn't a death sentence and it would be OK. So what if I became diabetic. We would deal with. God Bless him!!!
I am so thankful that we have modern science that can detect these disorders and there are medications, etc. that can "control" these diseases and make life liveable.
