We have 4 baby goats born Christmas Eve day and 2 born Christmas day! Mary, Josephine, Kris and Kringle were born on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, Mary (the goat) didn't make it - alas, that is life on the farm. Holly and Noelle, two pure white Saanens, were born Christmas morning. Total - 4 girls and 1 boy! I still have two more goats to kid (give birth) but I don't think they are due anytime soon! BOY, that buck was busy!
In the picture is Josephine, the black goat, next to her is Kris (the only boy goat) and his sister, Kringle.
Baby Alpine Goats
Two baby Alpine goats born February 13 - almost Valentine babies!! A little boy, named Valentino for Valetine's Day, and his sister, Fawn - for her coloring. Alpine Dairy Goat's milk is excellent for drinking.
All of our baby goats are bottle feed. More work for me, but it makes sure the babies are getting enough milk.
Hope
Little Hope was one of our surviving Preemies. I love success stories like this! I found her buried in the straw and didn't think she would make it. BUT, she was a fighter and here she is today! I named her Hope because I felt she was full of hope. Hope is shown below next to our Shih Tzu shortly after she was born - see how tiny she was!!
This is Maribelle, a two year old Alpine Dairy Goat. Alpine milk is very sweet and one of the best tasting goat's milk you will ever drink.
If you ever do buy a dairy goat, ALWAYS ask to taste a sample of the milk before you buy. Each goat breed's milk is different. Nubian milk (the goats with the big floppy ears) is loaded with alot of butterfat and makes excellent great cheese. Toggenburg milk has that "goaty" taste.
January 27, 2012
This is what happens when two baby goats knock over a heat lamp in their pen. It catches on fire! Fortunately, a good samaritan neighbor was driving by, saw the smoke coming out of my barn and got me. Somehow the two baby goats survived without getting burn!! God was watching over us that day!! This could have been a whole lot worse than it was!
How lucky were we?? We had just bought a new load of hay. Look how close the fire got to the new load of hay - inches!! God was watching over us that day!
Leap Year Babies!
These 3 little girls were born February 29, 2012 making them very special babies and they can only celebrate their birthdays once every 4 years!! The two little white goats are Saanens - one of the best milking goats around! Their milk is the creamiest milk we have ever tasted! My husband thinks we should name one Sadie (for Sadie Hawkins day) and the other Leap for Leap Year - I have decided to shorten to Lea - sounds so much better than Leap. The little brown goat is an Alpine goat. Her name is Stormy since it was very stormy the day she was born and we were under a tornado warning. .
Sadie!
Here is Sadie, one of our "Leap Year Babies" almost a year later! She is NOT supposed to be up there! But you know how kids can be - never do as they are told!
This is baby Shrek. Our first 2015 baby - she is Holly's baby. We named her Shrek because of her ears - she reminded us of the character Shrek.
